UnSmart Home Lisburn

We were delighted to bring the UnSmart Home to Lisburn City Centre and invite participants from local primary schools to take part in the puzzle room as well as a bespoke workshop in Bow Street Mall.

We had 4 classes take part from 3 Lisburn based schools, with over 100 children participating during our 3 day run!

Thank you to our funders the Arts Council NI National Lottery Grant and Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council who made this project possible.

UnSmart Home 2.0

We were delighted to be funded by Arts Council NI and National Lottery on the Creative Seed Programme to bring the UnSmart Home to the next level.

Working with Queen’s University Belfast and their Computer Science Masters Students - we created 5 new puzzles for the UnSmart Home and tested them in the Queen’s Computer Science Building in August 2023.

From an updated Wonky Washing Machine to a Mind Boggling Bookshelf, it was amazing to see what the students came up with. And we are so grateful that 27 young people came down to test the puzzle room (and were much faster than the University lecturers!)

We are still working away and will be brining the updated version to Lisburn in the near future, with the dream of taking it to schools feeling much more in reach.

UnSmart Home

We at Three’s Theatre Company are taking our immersive experiences to the next level with this audience interactive event. Similar to an escape room puzzle but designed for children to encourage an interest in coding.

This is the first Research and Development stage of this project and your feedback is vital to how we further develop the project and eventually take it on a schools tour across the Island of Ireland (and maybe further afield… we have big dreams for the UnSmart Home)

In groups of 3-5 people, with a minimum of 3 people aged 7+ you will have 30 minutes to help ZeeZee (who has accepted too many cookies and got the hiccups!) and restore the UnSmart Home. Be prepared to problem solve, move about and work together as a team!

In collaboration with Instill and Rasberry Pi the game has been designed to encourage key learnings that support coding. We’d love to know what you think and see how we could make the UnSmart Home even more fun in the future.

Huge Thanks to Connswater Shopping Centre for supporting our first development of UnSmart Home.

We finished our first R&D of UnSmart Home at Connswater Shopping Centre (Oct-Nov 2022) and we had so much fun! We are working hard on the next steps for this creative project that gets kids to problem solve and learn the basics of coding! We hope to bring ZeeZee and the Unsmart Home back to everyone soon!

That Sinking Feeling

"This is Belfast, our wee Goldilocks land, not too hot and not too cold. Not too affected by climate change, so we just get on as we always have."

Join us for an individual and immersive experience that exposes how vulnerable the city of Belfast is to climate change. The world is heating up and soon Belfast will be more obviously affected. We must act now before irreversible damage is done. It's time to make climate change personal.

  1. Only one person can experience it at a time

  2. This is an audio experience that lasts about 5 minutes

  3. Age Guidelines 8+

Our installation premiered around Belfast during COP26 9th - 14th November and beyond

We have been at Banana Block & Banbridge Festival of Fire and Light as well as conferences at Queen’s University.

We are soon to announce ‘That Sinking Feelings’ next stop!

If you are interested in having the installation at your event, just get in touch!

A Simple Journey

For ‘A Simple Journey’ we teamed up with EastSide Arts & Translink for the wonderful EastSide Arts Festival being funded by Arts & Business NI.

Translink has launched their new Hydrogen Bus the greenest of the fleet so we want to bring to life some of their passengers as they embark on their journey…

Sonder n : The realization that everyone around you has a life outside of yours, complete with their own thoughts, feelings, and emotions. You could potentially be just a passing figure on the street to them.

Have you ever sat on a bus a imagined an entire life for the person sitting across from you? We all do it, wondering what their story is; where are they going? Why? Everything from ‘where did they get that coat?!’ To their dreams, their memories and their plans. Well, that’s where Three’s Theatre Company’s latest collaboration ‘A Simple Journey’ comes from. Using three actor/writers with their own unique tales we’ve developed an engaging three part show imbued with stunning sound design and community collaboration to set the scene onboard the Hydrogen Bus.

All taking place at Victoria Park and we wandered in and out of the other passenger’s heads, it changed how we felt as a passenger on a bus forever!

The cost of a ticket was the same as a day ticket - just £3.50

We hope you didn’t miss your stop!

I Believe Her

We felt impassioned to create an audio production to let women know that their voices are being heard and to create allyship amongst men, it's called ‘I Believe Her’ and it deals with all that the patriarchy has been getting up to in 2021 and long before.

You may remember not too long ago we had a very difficult week that started with International Women's Day and ended with 'Mother's Day. Days designed to celebrate the wonderful females in our lives, to see how far we have come and look for even more equality going forward. But these joyful days were marred with tragedy and violence: the disappearance and death of Sarah Everard, Police brutality at a peaceful and safe vigil, Meghan Markle's Oprah Interview and the backlash that her feelings about her own mental health were false and closer to home in Belfast a beautiful artwork celebrating the female form was censored by a man, as he painted over the unpaid artwork Nuala Cnvery (@wee.nuls) had completed in three days. Well, just rereading that fills us with the same rage that was the start of this project. All of these events resurrected a national conversation about male violence and womens safety that we have heard too many times before.

We have had enough of inaction, of watching our cries fall on deaf ears, so this time instead of speaking out - we are letting you in, letting you inside the most inner thoughts of the female minds when they are experiencing what should be one of the most basic tasks in life - just walking home.

This all-female team has come together to raise their voice and use their artistic talents to make comment and create something we believe is beautifully strong.

THESE STREETS

Three’s Theatre Company paired up with OutsideIn and Simon Community NI to bring you These Streets – 2 stories, 2 journeys around the city.

“Cities are strange aren’t they? I mean look around you, look how much there is in one building - art galleries, theatres, a coffee shop, the all important bar, no matter what you want to do with your day you can probably do it here or within spitting distance anyway. Sure look, you can have a pray, an overcomplicated coffee, a salad, an education and all in the one square”

See Belfast from another perspective.

See why things need to change.

After interviewing people who have and are currently experiencing homelessness their stories have been collaborated to create two tales of the city.

Theatre On Your Sofa

During 2020’s pandemic we really couldn’t be putting 7 people in an en-suite of a hotel bedroom in Belfast or 28 people in a lift… so we decided to relive some of our favourite experiences and share them with you. Check out Theatre On Your Sofa — all you need is your headphones and a little imagination.

Now For The North - The Unfinished Revolution

Now For The North came back for its third and final instalment. The Unfinished Revolution on 6-7th March 2020 at The MAC for International Women’s Day.

Three’s Theatre Company first created this production for the anniversary of the Repeal in May 2019 at The Lyric and after it’s success and SOLD OUT run we built it further, explored more stories and brought the new version to The MAC for a run in September for The Rally For a Choice and International Safe Abortion Day.

With all the changes in the law and abortion now legalised in Northern Ireland 👏👏 we are hoping it will be accessible from March - so no pregnant person will ever have to travel for health care.

We have updated some of the scripts and logistics and added a few new scenes to this final instalment of Now For The North, with the aim of reducing the stigma surrounding abortion.

10% of ticket sales will go to Alliance For Choice so they can continue to do great work educating the public and helping pregnant people seek health care and advice.

Whether you missed it the first and second time, or you caught it and found it an important experience - this will be your last chance to see Now For The North.

Rewilding Winter Cabaret

Our Environmental Christmas Party

Thursday 19th - Sunday 22nd December 2019

Review

When the fire and mulled wine by the TV isn’t cutting it and you’ve run out of Blue Planet to watch...let Three's Theatre Company warm you up this winter with evening that was possibly once recommended by David Attenborough himself and all the turtles in the sea.

We partied inside the Big Top at Writers Square as we teamed up with Tumble Circus just for you.

We put the ‘sexy in the incorrect spelling of ‘sustainability. Let us entertain you for the evening in a way that's hot...without heating up the planet.

We had...

- Drag Queens bedecked in Biodegradable Glitter

- Comedy Burlesque Dancers in Organic Cotton only.

- Acrobats that won’t leave you hanging!

- Jugglers doing things with balls you've never seen before 😉

- And so much more, without a plastic straw in sight!

You could even get yummy ‘Hot Vegan Street Food’ by Curated Kitchen!

Don't do the sad office party, run away with the circus instead!

“You don’t know me; talk to me; ask me; look me in the f***ing eye,” the man inside my head implores. He’s gentle, never preachy or judgemental. The story circles back as it concludes, the two ends not quite meeting, but with a sense that there is hope, relationships are being restored, security has been re-established.

Now For The North

First in The Lyric, Belfast May 2019

Then in The MAC, Belfast Sept 2019

Funds raised through CrowdFunder and Ticket Sales. Supported by Alliance For Choice - 20% of ticket sales will go to support their cause.

28 women leave NI each week, crossing the waters seeking treatment. Behind every statistic is a real woman.

Now For The North is a site-specific, immersive piece of “choice” theatre from Three’s Theatre Company.  You'll journey around the MAC exploring reproductive rights in Northern Ireland - you'd normally get a choice of the journey to take, but as NI women don't have that option, Three's will choose for you.

"We are here to speak out and tell the stories. Behind every statistic there is a woman*... A real woman with a life, passions, commitments, a family and friends. A woman who is not being supported by their government, a woman who must travel to receive the medical help they need.

We are not ashamed, we will stand for our sisters, our mothers, our grandmothers, our cousins, our friends. Northern Ireland, We Want Change"

- Anna Leckey, Artistic Director, Three's Theatre Company

Reviews

“Full of empathy, sensitivity and surprisingly enough, humour, Three’s Theatre Company highlights just how far Northern Ireland has to go before catching up.”

- Pastie Bap

“It's an astonishing performance, one of many suffusing and supplementing an atmosphere as heartwarming as it is heartbreaking.”

  • - Simon Fallaha

“Now for the North has poise and tact, believing in the power of listening the thoughts and feelings of relatable people who are making difficult choices in less than ideal circumstances to understand rather than judge them, without any need to resort to preaching blunt messages or relying on techniques that simply shock-for-effect.”

“Jealousy, paranoia, dissatisfaction, live music and a beautiful dance to finish (Lizi Watt and Gerard Kelly) under the skillful control of artistic director Anna Leckey and her enthusiastic team. Seventeen creatives, one hotel, many stories, even more imaginations.” Alan in Belfast

Belfast Times

“Walking into the courtyard at Belfast’s gorgeous Bullitt Hotel we are met by Anna Lecky, Date Show: After Dark’s artistic director and producer who directs us towards a romantic nook and asks us to wait for our date before adding a swift, “You look amazing tonight, by the way.” There’s a lot of eye contact, some softly spoken words, and even more flirting – and the show hasn’t even started yet – so it’s certainly no coincidence that the trepidation felt before attending Three’s Theatre Company’s Date Show: After Dark was something akin to the nerves felt before a first date.” Pastie Bap

THINKING ABOUT THOUGHTS

Island Arts Centre & Black Box August 2016

Funded by Lisburn City and Castlereagh Council.

What does it sound like inside your head?

What does it sound like inside someone else's head?

Why is it so loud at this silent retreat?

A physical theatre production where the audience had the freedom to listen to the internal thoughts of three characters at a silent retreat. The journey through the play was completely up to them as they changed channel on the silent disco headphones throughout.
